Abstract: This 15-hour IV Therapy Certificate Program (often referred to as “IV Certification”) is designed to provide Medical Assistants with IV therapy instruction proven to achieve quality IV practice, improve patient/client outcomes and prevent liability risks. It includes 11-hours of online instruction and a 4-hour simulated IV Lab / hands-on skills practice session.
Content Includes: An introduction and overview of current IV therapy practice, including national standards and guidelines related to IV therapy, special considerations for geriatric and pediatric patients, legal aspects, a comprehensive review of current peripheral venous access devices and the insertion procedure, site care and maintenance recommendations, and considerations related to IV medication and fluid administration.
This program includes a video/slide presentation given by Kay Coulter, CRNI, VA-BC, a video of a live peripheral IV catheter insertion demonstration, a printable workbook, a post test following each chapter, and a simulated IV Lab / hands-on skills practice session (IV kit included).
IV Skills Lab:
- Please read: This selection is for the 2018 IV Certificate Blended Program with Lab for Medical Assistants 4-hour lab at which students will receive in-person, hands-on simulated training from a qualified instructor. There will be a question and answer session related to the online content, a peripheral IV catheter insertion/IV medication and fluid administration procedure demonstration, a blood draw procedure demonstration, and hands-on simulated skills practice/assessment.
Note: Completion of the 11-hour online program is required a minimum of one week prior to the IV Lab date. The online program may be started 24-hours after you register.
