If you’ve ever been admitted to the hospital, you know that there is a specific process.
You have to present a form of identification and sign documents, some of which you will be allowed to keep. Then you will be assigned a room based on the severity of your condition. This process is similar to the intake/reception and assessment process that you will learn for a correctional facility. The intake, classification, and release processes used by county and state facilities differ in many ways. Based on the rulemaking bodies, the Florida Model Jail Standards or Chapter 33, F.A.C., each facility establishes its own guidelines and procedures.
You must learn the procedures at the facility where you will be employed. You must also have knowledge of facility policies and procedures, state laws, and legal guidelines as they pertain to each part of the process. In county detention facilities, admission to a correctional facility is known as intake. In state facilities, admission to the institution is known as reception.
