NFPA 1400 is a consolidated National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard that establishes comprehensive minimum requirements for fire service training programs, training facilities, and training operations. Its purpose is to support safer, more effective, and more consistent training for fire service personnel across a wide range of disciplines.
Purpose and Background
NFPA 1400 was developed as part of NFPA’s Emergency Response and Responder Safety (ERRS) standards consolidation plan. This effort was intended to reduce conflicts, duplication, and usability issues created by having multiple separate but closely related training standards revised on different cycles. NFPA 1400 unifies these “like” standards into a single, coordinated document.
