Electrical Lineworker Program (with CDL Certification)

St. Petersburg College’s Electrical Lineworker Training Program provides students with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills needed to pursue entry-level career opportunities in the electric utility industry.

Students will develop technical competency, analytical problem-solving skills, workplace ethics, teamwork, and job responsibility. The curriculum covers basic electrical theory, electric power system operations, safe work practices, and standards related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical systems.

Students will develop hands-on skills in climbing poles, digging holes, and operating the tools, machinery, and equipment commonly used in the electric utility industry. They will also learn electrical terminology, job-related safety practices, first aid, CPR, rescue procedures, and basic computer applications.

Program Dates: Tuesday, September 29, 2026–Wednesday, January 27, 2027
Class Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
Class Time: 2:00–9:00 p.m.
Training Hours: 360 total instructional hours, including classroom instruction, hands-on training, and required online assignments

Program Requirements

Applicants must:

  1. Be at least 18 years old.
  2. Obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) before the first day of class.
  3. Attend and successfully complete the mandatory boot camp.
  4. Be selected for admission into the program.

Scheduled Days Without Class

Classes will not be held on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, October 27, 2026 – SPC Discovery Day
  • Wednesday, November 11, 2026 – Veterans Day
  • Sunday, November 22–Saturday, November 28, 2026 – Thanksgiving Break
  • Saturday, December 19, 2026–Sunday, January 3, 2027 – Winter Break

These dates align with SPC’s published 2026–2027 academic calendar.

Certifications

Students who successfully complete the training will receive the following certifications:

  • Restricted Class A Commercial Driver’s License
  • OSHA 10-Hour Card
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid
  • Bucket Truck Rescue
  • Pole Top Rescue
