Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), known as the CPR of mental health, is a national certification through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing that has been proven effective to recognize signs, symptoms, and risk factors of mental illnesses and/or addictions. This training is designed to raise awareness of the prevalence of mental health issues in the community, reduce the stigma and provide viable skills needed to address mental health challenges. Upon completion of the training you will be able to understand and respond to someone who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. Through the course, you learn the skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. This training will assist and empower key personnel in nonprofits, faith communities, and other community settings identify, understand, and respond to those who show signs of addictions and/or mental illness.   



PLEASE NOTE

The completion of the course pre-read is a requirement to attend this course. The pre-read must be completed no later than seven (7) days before start of the training class.  THE PRE-READ MATERIAL EMAIL WILL BE SENT FROM MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID CONNECT, NOT ST. PETERSBURG COLLEGE.

The course begins with the mandatory self-paced introduction and pre-read that takes approximately two (2) hours to complete.  The actual training will take place via real-time that will last from 5 to 6 hours with a class size of around 20 people.

Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing/ Mental Health First Aid approximately a week before your training outlining your next steps.
