The Shotgun Instructor Course is organized and developed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of a Commission-certified handgun instructor to provide efficient and effective shotgun training. The skills developed during this instructor course will prepare you to instruct the Shotgun Instructor Course and Shotgun Operator Course as well as to deliver in-service shotgun training and qualifications at your agency.
Before beginning course instruction, you must achieve a passing score in one out of two attempts on the qualification since the course is designed to teach how to instruct shotgun rather than how to shoot. The amount of material that needs to be covered during the course does not allow time to overcome shooting deficiencies.
The passing qualification scores are as follows:
• Slugs—5 out of 6
• 8 pellet shot—42 out of 48
• 9 pellet shot—48 out of 54
Later in this training, you will be responsible for instructing shotgun exercises on the range, including scoring targets and documenting student performance.
