This course is part of the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission Advanced Training Program. This course is designed to provide law enforcement officers with an understanding of the dynamics of a crisis, effective response strategies and tools for positive management of a crisis event. It should not be confused with and is not a substitute for the specialized Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) course.
This course will provide criminal justice officers training on legal aspects of and the most effective up-to-date crisis intervention strategies, including advanced de-escalation, diffusion, active listening and negotiation. Students will apply these skills and receive appropriate instructor review and critique during the role-playing scenarios practicum.
Officers will be required to pass a written test with an 80%. There is a mandatory attendance policy. This course is salary incentive eligible unless you have previously attended retired course #053, Crisis Intervention since both courses are identical.
This course has restricted access to only currently sworn and direct support staff of an agency.
