The phlebotomist is a vital member of the clinical laboratory team, whose main function is to obtain patient’s blood specimens venipuncture and microcollection for testing purposes. Phlebotomists are employed throughout the healthcare system including in hospitals, neighborhood health centers, medical group practices, HMO’s, public health facilities, veteran hospitals, insurance carriers, and in other healthcare settings. The demand for phlebotomy technicians has increased substantially with the overall complexity of healthcare services and the risks of infectious disease.
As a Phlebotomy Technician, you may perform some or all of the following tasks:
- Draw blood from patients and blood donors
- Evaluate patients’ ability to withstand procedure
- Explain blood-drawing procedure to patients and answer questions
- Perform basic point of care testing, such as blood glucose levels
- Prepare blood, urine and other specimens for testing
- Verify patient/donor identity
- Maintain medical equipment such as needles, test tubes and blood vials

Refund Policy:
Fees are refundable if a student withdraws in writing prior to the first class meeting or prior to the second meeting of a class lasting more than one day. However, fees are not refundable once the student has logged in to the online content for the course.
All course materials (books, assessments, handouts, disks, unique online codes, etc.) must be returned, unused, within three days of the refund request in order for full refunds to be processed. If course materials are used or not returned within the three-day time period, a partial refund (the cost of course minus the cost of course materials) will be given.
