Aerial Apparatus Operations

This course is designed to educate the driver/operator responsible for the driving and operation of apparatus equipped with aerial devices. It will meet the NFPA 1002, Standard for the Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications.  The course will include types and construction of aerial apparatus, aerial inspection & maintenance, driving, positioning, stabilization, operation of articulating and telescoping aerial apparatus, strategies & tactics, and testing of aerial apparatus.  Students will be exposed to several different types of aerial apparatus throughout the course.  Case studies will be reviewed covering various NIOSH reports relating to aerial apparatus incidents.  Students should have a basic understanding of the fire service profession as demonstrated in Firefighter I and Firefighter II prior to registering.
