Poetry. Fiction. Screenwriting. They’re all about telling great stories. They have much in common—screenplays have been called the form of writing closest to poetry. But they also have much that’s different—elements that may win you an award in fiction will label you as a total amateur in screenwriting. Our workshop focuses on techniques that will elevate your manuscript to a professional level. A unique dynamic is created as poets, authors, and screenwriters share skills and insights that enhance the quality of their writing. Each class begins with a discussion of an element of writing, followed by critiques of members’ work.
Craig Weeden, MA English, MFA Creative Writing, wrote the film adaptation of Painkiller Jane with comic book icon/legend Jimmy Palmiotti. Jane is under option to Solipsist Films. His crime thriller Lost Stones was a finalist in the 2011 Script Pipeline Screenwriting Competition.
Craig’s work has been published in over 100 literary and general magazines, including The Southern Poetry Review, New Orleans Review, Poetry NOW and Tennis. He’s listed in A Directory of American Poets and Fiction Writers, the International Who’s Who in Poetry and at Poets & Writers. A middle-grade novel Craig co-wrote with his wife, Victoria, Mia’s Gift: A Muzzles the Manatee Story, won three national awards. A collection of his poems, Yachting in Arkansas, is available from Kindle.
